Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a treatment that uses controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light and may be used to manage concerns such as pigmentation, facial redness, and skin affected by sun exposure or age-related changes. At Erase, IPL is performed using medical-grade equipment by trained clinicians under strict protocols to support safe and appropriate treatment delivery.

Unlike laser, which uses a single wavelength of light, IPL emits multiple wavelengths that penetrate the skin to target specific concerns, with minimal impact on surrounding tissue. The light energy is absorbed by pigment or blood vessels in the skin, which may then be gradually cleared through the body’s natural processes.

IPL may be used to address concerns such as sun spots, freckles, visible capillaries, and generalised redness. It may also help improve the appearance of skin tone and texture, and may support collagen production over time.

Treatments are tailored based on your skin type and concerns. Some individuals may notice changes following a single session, however a series of treatments may be recommended depending on your goals. IPL is not suitable for all skin tones, and a consultation and test patch are required prior to treatment.

You may experience mild redness or warmth in the treated area for a few hours following treatment. Most people are able to return to normal activities shortly after, and makeup can usually be worn the following day.

At Erase, IPL is used as part of a personalised skin management approach and is delivered by experienced clinicians following appropriate clinical protocols.

  • IPL is generally more suitable for lighter skin tones and may not be recommended for darker skin due to a higher risk of pigmentation changes. A consultation and test patch are required to assess your suitability and support safe treatment.

  • The sensation is often described as a quick snap or flick of heat, similar to a rubber band. It is generally well tolerated, and a cooling system may be used to support comfort during the procedure.

  • Downtime is typically minimal. You may experience some redness or warmth in the treated area for a few hours. Pigmented spots may darken temporarily before fading over the following days. Makeup can usually be worn the next day.

  • Some individuals may notice changes after a single treatment, however results vary between individuals. A series of 2 to 4 sessions spaced approximately 4 weeks apart may be recommended, depending on the concern being treated.
